  • Overview

ROYGBV is a mixed-media photography project by Em Duallo that explores identity, perception, and cultural awareness through the use of colour. Combining black-and-white portrait photography with vibrant collage and magazine-cut textures, the work examines how colour carries emotional, social, and cultural meaning in shaping human identity.

Each composition represents different aspects of individuality, including emotion, personality, race, and cultural background. Through layered visual elements and contrasting tones, the project highlights how identity is complex, evolving, and often shaped by external perceptions and societal expectations.

Inspired by contemporary mixed-media and collage practices, ROYGBV reflects on themes of diversity, representation, and self-expression. The use of fragmented imagery and textured patterns symbolizes the multifaceted nature of identity and the influence of media on how people see themselves and others.

This series invites viewers to move beyond surface-level judgments and recognise identity as a spectrum shaped by experience, culture, and emotion. ROYGBV positions colour not only as a visual element, but as a powerful tool for storytelling, connection, and awareness.
